Grand Opening Comedy Club by the Old DMV

Something Fresh and New for Staten Island, We have a Comedy Club named “The Looney Bin”.  Located off the service road by the old DMV, next to the bowling alley and pool hall right with another new Italian Pizzeria and Restaurant “Tutto L’Italiano”.

The slogan “Eat, Drink, Laugh” seems to go well for a comedy club that serves food and the establishment has a very nice feel which will look nicer once the bar is fully set up. The Dining Room has a rugged comedy feel and organized very nicely to point towards the comedian which also has a decoration like fence to give it somewhat a “Street Yard Scenery”.  The photos around the place include very clean pictures of famous comedians such as Rodney Dangerfield, Dane Cook, Eddie Murphy and a few others.

The Menu:  Many items from Appetizers, Salads, Pizza’s and Entrees as well as many different kinds of pasta leaning towards the Italian Cuisine.  But what attracted us on the menu was the unique names of there “Sandwiches”.  Each Sandwich is named after a comedian and they offer a “taste” for every “bud”

They also offer their facility for private parties, fundraisers and family shows.  The menu lists how this place came about.  So chill out at the bar before the show, enjoy dinner at the show, then head out to shoot some pool or enjoy a game of bowling and you have yourself a unique night out, on Staten Island.

Not from WhereYouEat Media (July 28th):  We apologize that we are not able to add Menus/Photos or edit any information at this time.  Our Database is Locked as you know we are currently upgrading our version and launching Brooklyn we are not able to view our Admin panel.  You may also be experience many errors with registration as DB is not open, please bear with us through this transition.  The Restaurant Menu and Photos for The Looney Bin on Staten Island will be added as soon as our developers unlock the DB, You will notice the Launch in Brooklyn at the same time.  Thank You for the support and commitment of using our website.

Website Design Changes and Apology for Delay of Brooklyn Launch

July 16, 2009 by admin

Dear Staten Island and Brooklyn Residence, Our Designers and Web Developers have been working non-stop in the past few weeks making a few design changes on our website and getting ready for the launch.  The Brooklyn Restaurant Menu and Photos Data information is already inside the Database.  The only problem is the design issues we have been having lately and wanting to upgrade the way our site looks and the way it works.  Please be patient and hopefully early next week we will be able to make it live.

The following Technical upgrades have been added to the website during this upgrade process:

  • Advanced Search: Now displays only what is available within a certain city, So you do not have to select a cuisine or special feature to only realize that “No Restaurants Founds”.
  • Narrow Search: Works the same, only displays what other searches are available within the search you have searched.
  • Improving Coupon System: We will next month begin offering a Powerful Ultra Enhanced “Special Discounts Inside” listings for restaurants, our coupon system will be easier to see and will work with a “Press to Print” button to make the process even simpler.
  • We will also begin taking ads from local business (Other than restaurants).  Local Plumbing, Barber Shops, Hair Saloon’s, Bridal Party Shops, Discount Stores and all others will soon be able to advertise directly on the Menu Pages on a Impression Basis.  For our visitors, we will try to have many coupons from local shops which will be able to target and advertise on restaurants in a certain Zip code, Island Wide and Even Multiple Cities.

The following Design Changes have been created for a smoother looking and simpler website. (Like it wasn’t simple enough already)

  • The Front Page (Select Your City), looks a lot more prettier and tastier than the previous version.  The Advanced Search works with One Select, instead of Click, Select and Search.
  • The Restaurant Listings Page has remained similar look but added a more creative looking “Narrow Search” that also works with a single drop and click. We have also upgraded the Featured Listing portion to be able to deliver even more results to our advertisers.
  • Saving the Best for Last: The Actual Menu Page.  The menu page is now a lot Easier to Read, Cleaner to Feel, Upgraded our Review Script, Added Gallery Thumbnails (So you can see all restaurant photos thumbnails without having to click through) Although selecting a photo will enlarge the photo, you can now change photos withing having to minimize each photo first.  The coupons on many restaurants now stand out greatly and a much cleaner look to where our local advertisers may go.  We have also upgraded many images on this page.
  • User Registration and My Account panel is now easier to use than ever before.  Simply Register for an Account, When browsing for menus you can add them to “My Favorites”, select My Account and View (My Favorites, My Latest Reviews, Latest News and Restaurants Near You).
  • Next time you visit our website, you will be auto-redirected to the city which you first have selected.  To switch a city, please look under our logo “Select a City” and simply click and press to change cities.

Special Notes: We put lots of time and effort into making this website run, and greatly appreciate all the suggestions you send us and enjoy hearing the comments.  Please keep doing so as your support is what keeps us going.  Also please help report restaurants that are missing by using the “Report Missing Restaurant” button on the listings page.
We hope you enjoy our upgrades and wish you the very best dining experience tonight and hope we were of help to you.

It’s hot and It’s Cold: Summer Outside Dining is here and the scene is Booming!

Finally when it became warm for a few days, we were more welcomed to sit outside and enjoy the great views while having a meal to enjoy.  Driving around Staten Island we noticed every restaurant off the Hylan Blvd Strip packed with diner’s outside.  The seen was beautiful.  Royale Crown recently (This Summer) has added many Palm looking trees to the outside, gives the patrons a bit of shade and making it look more up-scale.  Pasticceria Bruno also invoked a full exterior packed outside as well as Salvatore of Soho, with there pretty unique dressed waitress taking orders outside brings back memories of the 60′s (Not that I was around back then).   Another pizzeria (Ill Pomodoro), has now set up a few tables outside around the perimeter of the restaurant to also allow for outdoor dining, unfortunately on our drive we have not seen any one sitting outside yet as this may take some time getting used to.

A few restaurants situated around the water includes R.H Tuggs overlooking all the ferry boats and look toward the city as well as Rudy and Dean (Sit on top) has great view right next to the ferry.  Around the other side of the island we have the “Very Controversial” South Fin Grill, which definitely has a supreme great view right on the boardwalk.  Marina Cafe and Cole’s Dockside both next to the Mansion Marina in Great Kills offers fine dining with a seafood twist as well as Fiore Di Mare offering Italian Cuisine.  Further down the island we have a beautiful restaurant that looks like toy land, Coral Bay Cafe offering a Seafood and Italian along with Carmen’s (5 Minute Away.. Driving) which has dining almost on the water and offers Spanish Food as well as Seafood.  We also can’t forget to mention Angelina’s Restaurant which has a great view of the water outside,  And hopefully by sometime “Fresca’s on the Bay” will re-open and we will be able to add another one to our list.  (Sorry, we have not removed that restaurant to technical reasons).

We also have many restaurants that are situated throughout Staten Island and offering Outdoor Dining.  Here is the list Sum-Up: We have Alor Cafe situated on Richmond Road along with Fushimi (Next door) and Filipos a few blocks away.  Basilio right at the entrance of Staten Island (Coming from Brooklyn), Armory Inn located across from the Armory gives it sort of a “Armed” feel.  We have a small pizzeria offering a few chairs outside which we added, Village Maria voted the best “Calamari, Authentic Slice” on Whereyoueat last year. Zest offers a very carefully and beautifully designed outdoor garden. Z-One, Big Nose Kate’s Lava Lounge are all Restaurant and Bars offering Outdoor Dining and drinks as well as Dugout Pub which is more of Sports Bar (After the game Barbeque’s Outside, Very Thoughtful).  Almost forgot Sushi Excellent, They have a wonderful looking outdoor (upstairs) dining area overlooking New Dorp.

Caramba Cafe Tacos

Oh Yea! A bit of topic, while driving around the area I remembered the restaurant “Caramba Cafe” which we have written a great review about in the past, I decided to stop by and enjoy a couple of tacos, chips w/dip and a Boing! drink. Enjoy the photo. (Please Note: Menu of Caramba Cafe is Not-Up-To-Date, they did not have any take out menus at this time, but will get one as soon as possible)

Henny’s Steakhouse: Words Cannot Describe

Wow, Amazing, Delicious, Fantastic, Perfect, Five Full Stars and a “Hot Spot” listing through the directory can simply sum-up this long awaited return of the Island’s famous Steakhouse Restaurant Review.

Upon arriving at 7pm, our reservation time, we were seated promptly at a round table in the main dining area.  You can choose to come a little bit before and enjoy the bar scene in the lounge area.  This is my second time visiting, but unfortunately did not have my camera the first time around and did not have enough time to enjoy the bar, however I can say that this is a wonderful place to hang out a bit before the food.

The menu offers a straight forward “Steakhouse” cuisine, which is great because they know what they specialize in and make sure they get it done right.  The menu does offer a few items for the patrons who aren’t fans of steaks, offering a few options from fish, chicken and lamb to fulfil the appetite to those.

Let’s get to the Review:

  • Service (Tuesday: Since we have dined on a Tuesday, we can not write about the service on Weekends):   The waiter came around a few minutes after we settled down and placed the courtesy bread, crackers and butter on the table then came soon after  to take orders for the drinks and gave us a few more moments for the salads and appetizers. Soon after he came with some great suggestions for the entrees as well as a “Today’s Special” list.  We were provided some clean replacement  linen napkins during the meal.  The appetizers and food all came within great timing and we were very satisfied with the service.
  • Atmosphere:  Read the Walk-Around Here.
  • Food:
Calamari Appetizer:  Great portion size and had really good quality.
Salad:  Huge portion which was enough for all 5 people at the table and once again tasted great. This was the “Blue Cheese Salad”
Atlantic Salmon (Henny’s Style):  Salmon pan roasted with Artichokes, Fresh Tomatoes, Garlic and Capers in White Wine Pan Sauce. I simply could not hear enough how amazed my mother was while eating this.  The portion and the price is definitely a steal.
Pan Roasted Rack of New Zealand Lamb:  Roasted in Garlic and Herb crust comes with asparagus and baked potato.
Burger (8 0z): We had to cut it in half to be able to eat it.  I can say this is probably one of the “Largest 8 oz” I have seen.  (Not trying to be funny, but most 8oz burgers I have ordered for some reason come half the size? It was greatly enjoyed it.
Todays Special (Trio Pork):Ribs, Beef, and more pork with sweet potato fries, biscuit and coleslaw.  This was simply a huge portion size and the few bites I took were great.  More then half of the meal went home to be enjoyed the next day.
The Steak (Saved the best for last): (16oz Angus, Center Cut Ny Strip Steak):   Everybody at the table was jealous, everyone tried a bite of the steak and probably began to regret not getting one,  after all it is a Steakhouse.  It is kind of hard to describe a steak but I will try.  It was cooked perfect (Med/Well), just enough thin red in the middle to still keep the flavor and juiciness of the steak.  It was far from dry, far from chewy, simply amazing all around.  This steak was by far one of the best steaks I ever tasted since my career with WhereYouEat.

Overall Sum-up:  Everything from the Service, Food and Atmosphere (Quality) is indescribable.  Before Henny’s first opened the doors there was a lot of hype, and many people began requesting information on when they will open.  At that time we had no clue why.  When they opened we did a “Walk-Around” and saw why you guys couldn’t wait for them to come back with the quality of the establishment.  Once again, we see why everyone missed them while they were gone.

Pros: Great Food, Amazing Steaks, Large Appetizers, Supreme Service.

Grand Opening Walk Around Genki Sushi

July 6, 2009 by admin
Filed under Grand Openings, Staten Island

We apologize for the late posting on this restaurant.

Genki Sushi has replaced Daito about 1 month ago.  The management of this place has redesigned most of the interior and added a very nice walk in with wine bottles and a beautiful huge fish tank (No Fish Yet?).  Like most new “Sushi” places, Genki Sushi offers the 50% off on Sushi, Sashimi and Rolls.  This seems like a great addition to the Village Green Shopping Center on Arden.  We took the photos during the day and had to wait for a few tables to leave.  We wish them lots of luck from Whereyoueat.com.
