Chen’s Chinese Restaurant in Dongan Hills – CLOSED
It was Staten Island’s only “Traditional Chinese Restaurant” or at least displayed a sign along with Health and Vegetarian Specialties as part of their awning. The restaurant never had a lot of hype, but they did have a very strong local following – at least a few years back. It’s a Chinese Eat in and Take Out restaurant that gained a lot of praise for not being “Standard Chinese” and instead more authentic Mom and Pop.
The restaurant took a strong approach to healthy and with quotes such as All Natural Bragg liquid aminos are used in place of soy sauce and All Dishes contain no starch and very little grapeseed oil, most dishes steamed instead of sauteed. Chen’s was heavy on this focus.
