On a hot summer day, the few that we had this summer, sent us towards one of the “Outdoor Dining” establishments that we wrote about 2 weeks ago. It probably was the new decorations they had placed outside to give it a tropical feel (The palm trees adding the tropical shade feel). Royal Crown and Royal Cucina kitchen which is actually an Italian Sandwich shop and most of the menu (One Full Side) is based on “Sandwiches” which can be ordered on Panini’s, Heroes, Rolls and other breads your heart desires.
So we arrived at about 7pm and were seated very promptly without waiting for any outside tables (luckily for us there was one table available and patrons after us had to wait for a table outside or were seated inside). We ordered a large bottle of pellegrino and given two glasses with ice and lemon and the waitress soon after came around to take our order. We had placed an order for a Salad and a Sandwich. My mistake was discovered when the food came around, as I was really in the mood for a panini but forgot to say “Panini” and was brought the sandwich on a regular hero bread. Maybe the waitress should have asked what type of bread I would prefer it on, since this place is pretty famous for there “Panini’s”, so it’s possible this wasn’t totally my fault. Well anyways we’ll get to the review.
Atmosphere: The outdoor dining portion of the restaurant which sits right on Hylan Boulevard giving a great view of passerbys and a very clean feal to it. The outside is now surrounded by Palm Trees which gives a Tropical Feel and is just a perfect atmosphere choice on any Summer Day (Except the rainy ones).
Service: Up to the point seating and perfect timing for drinks/water coming to the table. Non-rushed ordering experience and good timing from when the order is received, yes not to quick and not to slow is the best. A little chat and relaxing before the food is just a perfect appetizer. My complaint on the service was that we should have been asked what type of bread we would like the sandwiches on.
Food: A great presentation of Salad and a decent presentation of the Hero (Not really a big fan of hero’s any more and prefer something different), but the picture can describe the way it looks. The portion size was great, we actually (2 people) split a Hero and the Salad and that was a simple, not too heavy dinner. I have also ordered my self a slice (Heard that they have thin crust, so had to try it). The salad: This was greatly enjoyed by the person eating it. The hero had great ingredients and the arugula adding some nice zesty flavouring which I enjoy. I know the Panini’s come with Pesto and really missed that part. The pizza slice, not your average pizzeria pizza, they offer thin crust which only a select few offer on Staten Island but was actually a decent ending to the meal.
Round-Up: A great atmosphere will definitely draw us back to visit again, next time I will order the panini and make sure I state “Panini” when ordering. Really need to show everyone the photos of the Panini.

Upon arriving at 7pm, our reservation time, we were seated promptly at a round table in the main dining area. You can choose to come a little bit before and enjoy the bar scene in the lounge area. This is my second time visiting, but unfortunately did not have my camera the first time around and did not have enough time to enjoy the bar, however I can say that this is a wonderful place to hang out a bit before the food.
The menu offers a straight forward “Steakhouse” cuisine, which is great because they know what they specialize in and make sure they get it done right. The menu does offer a few items for the patrons who aren’t fans of steaks, offering a few options from fish, chicken and lamb to fulfil the appetite to those.
Let’s get to the Review:
- Service (Tuesday: Since we have dined on a Tuesday, we can not write about the service on Weekends): The waiter came around a few minutes after we settled down and placed the courtesy bread, crackers and butter on the table then came soon after to take orders for the drinks and gave us a few more moments for the salads and appetizers. Soon after he came with some great suggestions for the entrees as well as a “Today’s Special” list. We were provided some clean replacement linen napkins during the meal. The appetizers and food all came within great timing and we were very satisfied with the service.
- Atmosphere: Read the Walk-Around Here.
- Food:
Calamari Appetizer: Great portion size and had really good quality.
Salad: Huge portion which was enough for all 5 people at the table and once again tasted great. This was the “Blue Cheese Salad”
Atlantic Salmon (Henny’s Style): Salmon pan roasted with Artichokes, Fresh Tomatoes, Garlic and Capers in White Wine Pan Sauce. I simply could not hear enough how amazed my mother was while eating this. The portion and the price is definitely a steal.
Pan Roasted Rack of New Zealand Lamb: Roasted in Garlic and Herb crust comes with asparagus and baked potato.
Burger (8 0z): We had to cut it in half to be able to eat it. I can say this is probably one of the “Largest 8 oz” I have seen. (Not trying to be funny, but most 8oz burgers I have ordered for some reason come half the size? It was greatly enjoyed it.
Todays Special (Trio Pork):Ribs, Beef, and more pork with sweet potato fries, biscuit and coleslaw. This was simply a huge portion size and the few bites I took were great. More then half of the meal went home to be enjoyed the next day.
The Steak (Saved the best for last): (16oz Angus, Center Cut Ny Strip Steak): Everybody at the table was jealous, everyone tried a bite of the steak and probably began to regret not getting one, after all it is a Steakhouse. It is kind of hard to describe a steak but I will try. It was cooked perfect (Med/Well), just enough thin red in the middle to still keep the flavor and juiciness of the steak. It was far from dry, far from chewy, simply amazing all around. This steak was by far one of the best steaks I ever tasted since my career with WhereYouEat.
Overall Sum-up: Everything from the Service, Food and Atmosphere (Quality) is indescribable. Before Henny’s first opened the doors there was a lot of hype, and many people began requesting information on when they will open. At that time we had no clue why. When they opened we did a “Walk-Around” and saw why you guys couldn’t wait for them to come back with the quality of the establishment. Once again, we see why everyone missed them while they were gone.

Talay Thai Menu & Photo Location: Talay Thai
Bring Your own Alcohol.
OK many of you see Talay Thai on your way home or too work, but never had the time or curiosity to try a Thailand Cuisine. So we tried it for you (well we wanted too ourselves also). The atmosphere is nice and quite, feels sort of like a living room, It has a carpet too make it feel more warmer. The setting is very dim at first may be a turn off since it is a “Casual Restaurant” but after a few mins you get used to it.
The Girl: Who is the waitress is daughter of this family owned restaurant, which makes it much more desirable since she cares about the business and actually recommends something tasty.
The Food:I ordered the Talay Thai, I never seen so much preparation in a meal. This came out in a Duck Wrapped Foil. With seafood inside, Clams, mussels, shrimp…

If you go to the menu you will see what the Duck actually looks like. There sauce was the great part of the meal, I like spicy food and they had home made sauce which was red peppers and something else. It was delicious (Very Very Spicy, but I am like a dog. I start to tear from my eyes, yet still after that bite is down I take more hot sauce, I don’t know why?) Anyways It had those clear noodles and came with a side of Jazmin Rice. My girlfriend had the Duck, I took a bite, It was almost as good as my entree which came Chef’s Recommendations (To me of course, She liked the duck better) She did not even try mine though, doesn’t eat seafood!) OK enough about my personal problems… I forgot to mention that we had an Appetizers “Bags of Gold” That was nothing special to talk about, anyways there is a picture of it also on the Menu page.
The Follow up Report: I enjoyed this Restaurant to much the first time that I had very high expectations when I came back, For some reason it was not as good as the first. We actually had the same two meals, but did not enjoy them as we did the first time. I learned this in school must be the “Satisfaction Curve” or something like that, maybe it was the Consumption curve? Anyways the more you consume, the less it satisfied you. (Eco 212, I think?)
Overall: Do not take the Follow up report any serious please, I cam in at 9:30, when they were supposed to close at 10:00pm, So it is possible it was a little faulty on my end.
