Tis the season for New Openings

Three years of following the local restaurant scene, adding new restaurants, September and October seem to be the busiest month of Grand Openings, it’s like a pre-holiday gift to the locals and every year we see new ideas come into play.  What makes this month so special is the variety of restaurants expanding to different parts of the island, offering their tastes to further parts than ever before.

Last month we have watched Z-Two make a grand opening on the South Shore with a complete statement of luxurious, club-like, trendy yet stylish Diner and Lounge, a very unique concept of what the owner Steve new that locals needed.  We have watched Pronto Pizza expand to their fifth location which now finally let’s them serve the South Shore, giving option of Pronto’s Pizza and Pasta to every resident on Staten Island.

South Shore business has been expanding like wild-fire, business after business seem to be growing day by day.  Just this week we announced a grand opening for a new concept, a Smokehouse with an Authentic “PIT”, serving Ribs, Smoked Sausage and more of the favorites which could rarely be found on Staten Island before.  DaddyO’s BBQ and Smokehouse is now open for business, located at the previous location of Hoof n Finz.

We have an upscale Mexican Cuisine that had it’s ‘Soft Opening’ early this week, Cabo, which will be announcing a Grand Opening sometime next week, after they work out their kinks and get their take-out menu right, although their main focus is dine in, it is a restaurant and bar located on page avenue.

Next week we will also be announcing a new opening of a restaurant replacing Vola Cafe, The DaNoi family will be brining Il Diveo to Hylan Blvd.  And whatever happened to the All You Can Eat buffet that was advertising as being opened about 2 months ago, but unfortunately never made it to opening their doors, maybe this month we’ll see something good.

Some other openings coming soon to the island:  Tottenville Tavern, which will take the place of Tuscan Sun, Red 7 will replace the Pizzeria and Bar on Arthur kill Road.   Not sure of the exact openings, but it’s what we noticed while going for our monthly stroll around the island to screen what’s changed.

WhereYouEat.com is Staten Island’s most comprehensive dining guide and restaurant portal.  We provide a complete listing with all menus, photos and information of every local restaurant in our borough.  Best way to continue to support us is to support restaurants that sponsor us, look for highlighted restaurants in any search and make sure to mention you found them through WhereYouEat.  Before I forget, remember to write your reviews after dining out at any of these new restaurants, other visitors are waiting for your opinions.

The restaurant world on Staten Island has a few changes around the Island.

  • Il Pomodoro on Hylan Blvd has just moved locations, 3 blocks down and a smaller spot which no longer has the outdoor dining available.  The pizza still looks the same, thin crust, they lost the room to ‘Brag’ with the huge sign they used to put up that reads “World Pizza Champion” that was meant to counter Goodfella’s that used to be next door.  If you checked out Il Pomodoro before, you may have to refresh the page or the older photos may load.  WhereYouEat Media is now creating archives of restaurant photos, for future ability to go back into history. Il Pomodoro on 1776 Hylan Blvd.
  • My Family Pizza has a new, attractive, cartoonist style, which is very clean and pleasant.  ’My Family Pizza’ has some great Specials Online, Click here to Check out My Family Pizza Menu.
  • King Buffet, Which is guaranteed by WhereYouEat Media to be Staten Islands Largest and Freshest All You Can Eat buffet (As of May, 2011), has some Hour Changes, they are open a bit later daily, but also open up a bit later for lunch. Check Out King Buffet Here.

Other News to Report:

  • We are continuing with on-going menu updates throughout the entire Island.
  • Grand Openings Coming Soon:  Lunchbox will be openings May 15th.  Manor Sushi (Next to the new Self Serve Yogurt Place) on Manor Road should be opening in the next couple of weeks.   Sandwiched INN should be open in Great Kills as of this week, we will confirm and get them listed right away if the information is accurate.

Well a bit delay in getting this out, but here it goes..  In New Dorp, actually, right on New Dorp Lane, Uzbekistan has finally opened.  One issue we have is, WE CAN”T READ THE MENU!!!  Most of the Menu is typed/published in Russian, which is a bit disturbing to see that we can only understand about 50% of the menu, hopefully they will get this on track as soon as possible.

Another Cafe (Health Food) that we have been also delayed in reporting has been open for about One Month now, nice clean and simple atmosphere with a bus stop location is a great addition to Staten Island, Maybe I can finally get my “Juice” veggie fix of the day at this location.  I just think there may be a small problem with parking, since there is a bus stop right in front and we all know how quick the meter maids are to whip out there ticket books.  So please folks, park around the corner.

It’s hot and It’s Cold: Summer Outside Dining is here and the scene is Booming!

Finally when it became warm for a few days, we were more welcomed to sit outside and enjoy the great views while having a meal to enjoy.  Driving around Staten Island we noticed every restaurant off the Hylan Blvd Strip packed with diner’s outside.  The seen was beautiful.  Royale Crown recently (This Summer) has added many Palm looking trees to the outside, gives the patrons a bit of shade and making it look more up-scale.  Pasticceria Bruno also invoked a full exterior packed outside as well as Salvatore of Soho, with there pretty unique dressed waitress taking orders outside brings back memories of the 60′s (Not that I was around back then).   Another pizzeria (Ill Pomodoro), has now set up a few tables outside around the perimeter of the restaurant to also allow for outdoor dining, unfortunately on our drive we have not seen any one sitting outside yet as this may take some time getting used to.

A few restaurants situated around the water includes R.H Tuggs overlooking all the ferry boats and look toward the city as well as Rudy and Dean (Sit on top) has great view right next to the ferry.  Around the other side of the island we have the “Very Controversial” South Fin Grill, which definitely has a supreme great view right on the boardwalk.  Marina Cafe and Cole’s Dockside both next to the Mansion Marina in Great Kills offers fine dining with a seafood twist as well as Fiore Di Mare offering Italian Cuisine.  Further down the island we have a beautiful restaurant that looks like toy land, Coral Bay Cafe offering a Seafood and Italian along with Carmen’s (5 Minute Away.. Driving) which has dining almost on the water and offers Spanish Food as well as Seafood.  We also can’t forget to mention Angelina’s Restaurant which has a great view of the water outside,  And hopefully by sometime “Fresca’s on the Bay” will re-open and we will be able to add another one to our list.  (Sorry, we have not removed that restaurant to technical reasons).

We also have many restaurants that are situated throughout Staten Island and offering Outdoor Dining.  Here is the list Sum-Up: We have Alor Cafe situated on Richmond Road along with Fushimi (Next door) and Filipos a few blocks away.  Basilio right at the entrance of Staten Island (Coming from Brooklyn), Armory Inn located across from the Armory gives it sort of a “Armed” feel.  We have a small pizzeria offering a few chairs outside which we added, Village Maria voted the best “Calamari, Authentic Slice” on Whereyoueat last year. Zest offers a very carefully and beautifully designed outdoor garden. Z-One, Big Nose Kate’s Lava Lounge are all Restaurant and Bars offering Outdoor Dining and drinks as well as Dugout Pub which is more of Sports Bar (After the game Barbeque’s Outside, Very Thoughtful).  Almost forgot Sushi Excellent, They have a wonderful looking outdoor (upstairs) dining area overlooking New Dorp.
