Laila a Taste of Syria opens in Staten Island

South Shore is the beneficiary of the latest restaurant opening, Laila opens up on Page Avenue bringing a Taste of Syria to the South Shore.

The restaurant brings slight hints of another Middle Eastern restaurant located on the North Shore, Mar Mar was the owners original venture on Staten Island, which recently split with another co owner and create his own fresh start on Page avenue.

Brick interior surrounds the dining area, open outdoor dining in the front, Laila is serving some unique to Staten Island Middle Eastern dishes.  Salads such as Tabouleh, Fatoush and the Laila signature made with Syrian Garden salad and feta cheese to get the taste buds salivating. Appetizers such as the standard Hummus and Baba Ghanough sit on the menu as well as the Steak Tartare, a signature dish of raw meat originally seen at the Mar Mar location.

Appetizers include Borak and Sambousek, Spicy Potato and Kibbeh a cracked wheat dough, filled with spiced meat and onions with pine nuts.  Other apps such as Pita stuffed with ground meat or chicken served under the name of Toshkah, Fried Calamari and mini pies.  Lamb Liver, Chicken Liver  and shrimps are here as well.

Entrees include Shish Tawook, Shawarma, various style of Kababs, Lamb Chops and Grilled Quails can be had along fish dishes such as Branzini, Syrian Salmon and Sayadiyya a fish filet served over rice with Syrian Spices.

Signature Syrian Specials include Fattet Mozat a Lamb Chunk over tahini sauced.  Stuffed Eggplant with Ground meat dish under the name of Fattet Makdous and a Stuffed Cabbage with Spiced lamb are all on the menu.

Laila is opened for Dine In currently and has plans to begin offering delivery at some point in the near future.
