Poke Bowl Staten Island

This “new” dish has first arrived on Staten Island approximately 8 Months, it quickly spread like wildfire throughout the borough and many restaurants now serve this “Hawaiian” classic.  What is a Poke Bowl? A fast casual sushi concept where items go inside a bowl instead of being rolled up.  It may be considered a Salad, but it has so many ingredients that its actually a Poke Bowl.  You can have 20 or so various ingredients, everything from Seaweed, Tuna, Salmon, Nori, Crisps, Cucumber, Onion, Tomato, Salad and dozens of other choices and sauces.

We feel it started with Hawaii Poke Bowl, the eat in and take out only spot in Bulls head, located at 1430 Richmond Avenue – today it is the only official Poke Bowl focused on “Poke Bowl”, but there are a few openings coming soon and today many sushi and Japanese restaurants are already featuring this dish on the menu.

Let’s Start here:

  • HAWAII POKE BOWL
The true Poke Bowl focused restaurant, Take out or Dine in only
Build your own or some suggested dishes, along with Bubble Tea
  • CUCUMBER SUSHI (Great Kills Location)  (Seguine Ave Location)
This Sushi and Salad bar classic restaurant has added a completely new “SALAD” section.
Japanese Salad Bar is the section you will find new Salads which include
The Poke Bowl: Select your base or rice or salad or mix it half and half, Tuna, Salmon, Crispy Onion, Cucumber, Avocado, Masago, Seaweed Salad, Mango, Spicy Mayo and Poke Sauce!
No build your own, but this is a classic and it hits the spot when you need a Poke Bowl
  • NAKATA SUSHI
This Grasmere Sushi Hot Spot has recently introduced ISLAND POKE BOWL
4 Options or Create Your Own (one protein or two)
On the menu is the Supreme Poke, Salmon, Edamame, Shredded Cucumber, mango, Rainbow Radish, Sweet Furikake, Crispy Shallot and Sushi Rice, or go for the Nakata Poke or the Classic.
Build your own option gives you option to select a base

    – Choose toppings, Up to three dressing and add some crunch! – $11.95
  • SAYORI
We think this was the second or even first place to actually serve the dish on Staten Island.  The original Osaka has converted the front sushi bar to a Poke Bar, but has since took a more tamer approach on the dish.  It’s still on the menu under Poke Bowl, with options such as Bulgoki Combo, Yook Combo, Teriyaki Combo or the Ahi Combo or Yori combo, Lunch for $9.95 and dinner goes up to $12.95
  • YUM YUM EASTERN
After recently closing due to a fire, the restaurant has re-opened and brings along the new Poke Bowl concept to the neighborhood.
  • SIMPLE ASIA
They haven’t named it “Poke Bowl” but they do have Sushi Bowl on the menu, for $9.95 you pick a protein, choose a side, select a sauce and top it off with toppings.  It’s the exact same thing as a Poke Bowl, and its very possible the restaurant was serving this before the “Poke” craze came to be, which is why they haven’t adapted the name yet.
  • QUICK GRILL JAPAN
It’s not on the physical menu yet, but the restaurant does state they are introducing POKE BOWL, we will try to get this updated shortly.  The concept of this restaurant is based on the Mall Food Japanese Teriyaki type of restaurant, where an open grill concept, food you select cooked in a Teriyaki sauce.

There is definitely more to come,  We see a few places such as Poke Fusion opening soon on Hylan Blvd, and we will be reporting on it shortly as it opens.
